Supporting Home Learning

During these difficult times Home Learning has become the only learning children are being exposed to. With this in mind it is important to remember to encourage the children to engage in learning as frequently as possible. We are trying to help by producing work daily for the children to complete.

In Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 teachers are producing work for the children to have a go at on ClassDojo.

In Key Stage 2 all children have a login for Google Classroom where their teachers are providing lessons for the children to complete daily. if you have any trouble accessing Google Classroom please message your child's teacher on Class Dojo and they will be only too happy to help.

There are many ways in which you can help to support your child’s learning at home. The most fundamental way in which you can help is to read with them. Closely followed by basic number skills and times tables.

Reading with your child could take many forms. Children of all ages love to hear a good story. Try to make time to share a story. This can start at any age and can continue throughout a child’s time at primary school. Reading the words, sharing the pictures and discussing what is happening are all key things you can do to develop your child’s love of books and reading.

As your child gets older they will develop more independence with their reading and will start to be able to decode the words. At this stage you can listen to your child reading; supporting them when they need it and discussing what is happening and recapping the story so far.

There is no age when your child will not need to be heard read. Even when they are in year 5 and 6. You can listen and question as they read. Ask them to retell the story for you. Ask what it would be like to be the character and what they would have done if it was them.

Developing number skills is an easy way in which you can support learning at home. Asking the children to count different objects through to asking them their times tables. If your child is in years 3 to 6 then they will have a login for Timestables Rockstars. An activity that could be practised at home with your support. Follow the link to login: https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student/36447

These are just a couple of ways you can support learning at home. If you would like more information please do see your child’s teacher who will be happy to help.
